The dog knew first: Claudette Frenette is Set for Life

Moncton (N.B.) – Claudette Frenette was set to celebrate the NB day weekend. Now she’s Set for Life. The Beresford woman picked up a cheque for $675,000 after winning the top prize on Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life ticket.

“When I stop and think about it, it feels like a dream,” she says. “I always dream but you realize that the odds are small so I’m just going to enjoy this.”

Claudette likes the Set for Life game and on Tuesday she picked up a ticket to scratch at home. She uncovered one SET FOR LIFE symbol and thought “whatever”. She saw the second…and kept scratching. When she uncovered the “S” in the third symbol, she yelled “Néiki, I just won Set for Life!”

Néiki, her dog, wasn’t near as excited as Claudette, who promptly sent one of her daughters a Facebook message telling her the good news. She only believed her mom after Claudette also sent a picture of the winning ticket. Her second daughter has no idea yet because she’s away on a fishing trip.

The retired grandmother of two already has a wish list: she’d like a new cell phone and a smaller vehicle. She also says her girls and her grandchildren will be spoiled a little. While she is excited, she’s definitely got the right perspective:

“I have my health and that’s most important to me. We’re just going to enjoy it.”

Claudette chose the lump sum payout option and collected her $675,000 winnings today at Atlantic Lottery’s Head Office in Moncton.

The Harbourview Esso in Bathurst will receive a one per cent seller’s prize for selling the winning ticket.
